PCB Introduces Major Contract Overhaul, Links Player Selection to Fitness and Domestic Cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a major revision of its central contracts system, replacing the traditional A to D categories with a new five-track structure aimed at aligning players with specific formats.

The new model, effective from the 2026 cycle, divides players into roles based on their specialization. Track AB will include Test and ODI players, Track A will focus on red-ball specialists, Track BC for ODI and T20 players, Track C for T20 and franchise cricketers, and Track D for emerging talent.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the system is designed to improve transparency, accountability, and performance standards while supporting the long-term future of Test cricket. The new structure will also link contracts to fitness levels, domestic cricket participation, and performance evaluations.

Officials said the reform aims to balance international duties with the growing demands of franchise leagues, while encouraging stronger involvement in domestic cricket.

In a separate clarification, Naqvi dismissed speculation about appointments of former cricketers Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez, saying no official decision had been made regarding coaching or mentoring roles.
