Lukaku Rescues Belgium as Egypt Hold Salah’s Side to 1-1 Draw

Belgium and Egypt shared the points in a 1-1 draw in their World Cup opener in Seattle, with Romelu Lukaku coming off the bench to deny Mohamed Salah a winning birthday celebration.

Egypt took an early lead through Emam Ashour, who produced a fine finish in the first half. Belgium pushed for an equaliser, with Kevin De Bruyne coming close on several occasions but unable to beat the goalkeeper.

The breakthrough came after the hour mark when Lukaku was introduced and immediately made an impact, forcing an own goal from Egypt’s Mohamed Hany after a dangerous cross into the box.

Both sides had further chances in a lively contest, with Salah also going close before being substituted late on. Despite pressure from Belgium in the closing stages, Egypt held firm to secure a valuable point, while Belgium were left to reflect on missed opportunities.
