Australia national cricket team began their three-match T20 series with a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh national cricket team in Chattogram on Wednesday, chasing down a modest target with 10 balls to spare.
Australia reached 133-6 in 18.2 overs, successfully overhauling Bangladesh’s total of 131 to take a 1-0 series lead.
Bangladesh Struggle After Bright Start
Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 131 in 19 overs, despite a strong opening phase that saw them reach 52 runs in the powerplay.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz top-scored with an unbeaten 29, but the hosts lost momentum after early breakthroughs and failed to build partnerships in the middle overs.
Australia’s spin attack proved decisive, with Adam Zampa taking 3-18 and debutant Cooper Connolly (also contributing with the ball in the overall attack setup) and others applying constant pressure. Bangladesh collapsed after a promising start, finishing well short of a competitive total.
Connolly Anchors Australia’s Chase
Australia’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets including captain Mitchell Marsh for 13 and Josh Inglis for 5.
However, Connolly produced a match-winning innings, scoring a rapid 47 off 27 balls, hitting four boundaries and three sixes. He built a crucial partnership with Tim David, who added 20 runs.
Despite a brief wobble in the middle order, Australia stayed ahead of the required rate throughout the chase.
Late Contributions Seal Victory
Australia lost wickets at regular intervals, including Matt Renshaw and debutant Nikhil Chaudhary, but remained in control.
In the end, debutant Joel Davies and Xavier Bartlett guided the team home with calm finishing touches.
