Kylian Mbappé scored twice and became France’s all-time leading goalscorer as the defending champions opened their World Cup campaign with a strong 3-1 victory over Senegal in Group I.

The French captain took his international tally to 58 goals, surpassing former record-holder Olivier Giroud. He also reached 14 World Cup goals, equaling German legend Gerd Müller and moving just two goals behind all-time record holder Miroslav Klose.

Senegal Start Strong but Fail to Convert Chances

Despite the final scoreline, Senegal created several dangerous opportunities in the first half. Nicolas Jackson hit the post, while Ismaïla Sarr missed a clear chance that could have changed the momentum of the match.

France improved significantly after halftime and finally broke the deadlock in the 66th minute. Michael Olise played a perfectly weighted pass through the defense, allowing Mbappé to race clear and finish calmly past goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

France doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when substitute Bradley Barcola finished a well-worked attacking move started by Adrien Rabiot.

Senegal briefly reignited hope in stoppage time when Ibrahima Mbaye scored a stunning solo goal, firing into the top corner after a brilliant run.

However, Mbappé had the final word moments later, unleashing a powerful long-range strike to seal the win in style.
